I would like inscriptions and insignias on old weapons, but I don't mind not having it.
What I freaking want though is the ability to mod my preorder items like it used to be... No clue why that didn't get fixed by now.

Totally agree :P
The bonus items from the 'Game of the Year/Million Edition' should be modable aswell

I'd have to say I like the NPC to inscribe Chapter 1 & 2 items best.
I doubt they add it in full for Prophecies and Factions, but this would be a good way to make sure people still buy Nightfall for it.

They will update armor eventually.
They did this when factions was released.
I had just finished buying me 15k granit armor in tyria, and they JUST released factions with better elemental armor same time.
After a while, they updated the tyrian armor to be the same stats as canthan stuff. But any armor bought before that was out-dated and used the old stats.
It took about a year to finally have them update armor which was bought before the update. But they did do it eventually.
Demand states they let tyrian and canthan armor use insignias. They would be foolish not to.

That change was made because of balance; insignias don't disrupt balance of old armors. There's a very slim chance they ever go back to add blank sets to Tyria/Cantha.

I would understand they letting us update our armor to inscripable ones, for a free perhaps.
But if they would allow our chapter 1 and 2 weapons to be updated to inscipable... then GW would loose some customers.
there are a lot of peeps who just feel good and godly because of theire "leet" weapons with perfect stats etc (chapter 1 and 2 items again)
and of course they would have wasted a lot of money if that would happen

Adding the ability to inscribe old armor would be rather easy and would not upset anything that I can see.
However as far as weapons/items go there is another problem. Right now you can pay 5k + crafting materials to acuire a max inscribable weapon/item.
On the flip side I can buy a max white weapon/item for about 200g
That means that the cost of making an item/weapon inscribable would be very high, 10k+, in order to prevent these crafters from becoming obsolete.
While I would still love that, most people could not afford to make more than a couple of items inscribable at that price. ie: your cattering to the rich.
The average player would likely never pay to make an item inscribable since buying an inscribable version of the same item would be cheeper.
The rich would just love being able to inscribe there Crystaline Swords and such.
In the end though id still like to see both changes happen!

Well sorry their vanity can't be appeased but some of us want a practical update.

Er, Nightfall whites aren't inscribable either. One would assume that they'd keep the same system if they extended it to the other chapters...

1. I completely agree with the OP when it comes to armor. All chapters armor should be inscribable, as the armor is still purchaseable today.
2. I completely disagree with the OP when it comes to weapons, shields and focii. It's the same reason they issued new versions of the old holiday hats - people do not want their current possessions (i.e. Chapter 1 and 2 weapons) that they worked hard to get made worthless by a subsequent chapter.
There was a long debate on this subject in the Suggestion forum, but in short - many players strive for those "almost perfect" chapter 1 and chapter 2 weapons as a goal in the game. Those same players view inscribable weapons as not as desirable, and as a result, they aren't "goals" for those characters. So, A-Net's solution was very wise - allow inscribable weapons, but keep the old weapons intact (i.e. without inscriptions). It makes both camps happy.

Completely disagree there - the "rich" who have almost perfect Crystalline swords would be devastated if the item they had as a goal to acquire in game became identical to one that was worth less than 1% of its current value.

They already have blank 1.5k sets in Tyria and Cantha that are mod-less, just like there was a blank FoW set. They made the blank FoW set accept inscriptions; doing the same with the other armors wouldn't be so hard.

I guess by the time of release of chapter 4, there will be an option to inscribe all kinds of weapons that drop from then on. They did this with the storage too. Unless the inscriptions turn out to be some "Nightfall only" feature.
Sort of like the alliance system was exclusive to Factions.

For weapons:
While it would be awesome to have inscribable weapons in c1 & c2 (i.e get a phoenix blade with +20% while hexed and replace that with +5 energy), there would be yet another bunch of items that would lose their value in money.
Many players would be devastaded when their precious req8 gothic sword +5 energy/echovald shield/etc would drop in value especially when they have worked so hard for those items.
It would have been better to have that inscription option from start since implementing it now or in near future would obviously cause plenty of controversial feelings.
Personally I don't mind if it's added or not, but some will definately feel little bit cheated. I'm afraid that the later this kind of change comes, the more grief it'll bring.

Except for the fact that it was only done in the Fissure of Woe because it is accessible to the Nightfall campaign. Try again.

Pretty much every change to things already in the game was met with hostility and threats of leaving. Well the game is still being played. I certainly would enjoy the cries of anguish from those that feel slighted.
